April 2025 Buy a Day; Make a Difference Honorees

April 30thth Buy a Day; Make a Difference Honoree:

Our amazing partners at One Credit Union continue to stand out as a beacon of hope in our community, relentlessly working to address food insecurity and support those in need.

We are thrilled to share that One Credit Union has once again shown incredible generosity by purchasing a day to help provide for our food-insecure neighbors. Their commitment to ensuring that no one is without the essential need for food is evident in their donation of 30 meals, which will directly benefit individuals and families in need.

This thoughtful gesture is just one of many ways they continuously support and demonstrate a deep desire to create a more compassionate and connected community. One Credit Union's ongoing generosity is truly leaving a lasting, positive impact, and we are immensely grateful for their partnership. Together, we are building a stronger, more supportive community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Today, we express our heartfelt appreciation to One Credit Union for their unwavering dedication to making a difference in the lives of those who struggle with hunger.

Helping our Food Insecure Neighbors

Springfield Family Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that serves our food insecure neighbors in the greater Springfield area. Many in our community struggle with knowing where their next meal will come from:

-2 in 5 Vermonters are food insecure

-Springfield in particular suffers from a poverty rate that is 47% higher than Vermont's average.

During the last fiscal year, SFC helped alleviate this problem by providing the community with:

-30,282 prepared meals

-701 visits to the food shelf serving 1361 people cumulatively

-Distributed 9,826 loaves of bread, fresh produce to 6,146 people and fresh dairy to 1,216 people cumulatively

- 1,180 pounds of food feeding 140 families cumulatively through a food pantry drop off program at local schools

-102 holiday themed boxes feeding over 300 people

In addition, SFC partners with local organizations such as  Senior Solutions and Springfield Area Adult Day Program to develop programs that target particular populations with nutritional needs.

In April 2024, SFC relocated to a more efficient space in downtown Springfield, allowing for improved meal preparation and service. The new location is centrally located and accessible by public transportation, making it easier for those in need to access resources.

YOU CAN HELP BY BUYING A MEAL FOR A NEIGHBOR

For $10 you can “buy” an entire prepared meal for one person or enough ingredients from our food shelf to provide an entire meal for a household consisting of 2-3 people.
